Nude Art Protest about Sandon Court Challenge
26 August 2007
Sandon Point Community Picket
“Being naked to Save Sandon Point as part of the Art Installation photographed by Tyler Freeman Smith was quite an experience," said Kate Morris, one of the organizers. "I was prepared to be freezing but it was quite a magical experience, especially when the couple of hundred people watching us on the point, clapped at the end of the shoot.”
Protesters bared all in a challenge to Frank Sartor’s naked tyranny in denying the voice of his own Commission of Inquiry and thousands of residents over the past 15 years. Local Bulli resident, Jill Walker is challenging Planning Minister Sartor’s approval under questionable Part 3A legislation of a major development by Stockland and the Anglican Retirement Village Trust on a coastal floodplain between Thirroul and Bulli.
The Environmental Defenders Office is supporting Jill Walker in her court challenge, along with the Mori Gallery with an Art Auction Saturday 1st September at 168 Day St., Sydney.
“There was this moment when a V formation of pelicans flew over the line of us standing naked all along the headland facing the wild sea. It was a tribute to the 15 years the community has invested to save this unique wildlife corridor and wetland and turpentine forest habitat," said Kate.
Stephen Mori from Mori Gallery, where an Art Auction fundraiser is happening this coming Saturday 1st September said, "That was actually quite therapeutic!"
"We would like Frank Sartor to stop acting the goat, and give us the naked truth,” said local protesters, Norm and Paula, accompanied by their goat Daisy.
“This State government totally ignores human and cultural rights and environmental, social and global warming impacts. We have to fight for our civil rights against all undemocratic laws," said Jill.
“It was absolutely tremendous and quite beautiful, thanks to a line-up of local and Sydney stars baring all to bravely save Sandon Point,” said Jill.
The case is scheduled for hearing on 18 and 19 September.
