Signs on the perimeter fence warn of asbestos and air monitoring devices have been in use......

Local news programs are asking what's going on at Sandon Point.

In the early hours of 17th May 2011, SPATE residents noticed several workers dressed in full head-to-toe white hazard suits and breathing masks, that were on the Stockland development site and seemed to be checking and flagging areas that were being earthworked near the large fill heap in the south-east part of the site, and other places.

An independent planning panel is likely to decide on four major Illawarra developments after an overhaul of controversial planning laws.The developments - at Calderwood, Sandon Point, Yallah and the Wollongong CBD - are together worth an estimated $3.5 billion.

The State Government's plan to dump the unpopular Part 3A planning process, which gave the minister consent authority for major projects, means the independent Planning Assessment Commission (PAC) is now likely to determine their fate.

Developer Stockland has been fined $1500 by Wollongong City Council after complaints of stormwater leaking ifrom a site in Sandon Point

The Sandon Point Aboriginal Tent Embassy (SPATE) last week complained that recent heavy rains, which gtriggered a flood crises in the region's south had alos caused a build up of stormwater at the McCauley's Beach residential site.

When completed, this expanse of cleared land at Sandon Point will be filled with more than 180 new homes.

The McCauleys Beach residential project by developer Stockland will include around 167 homes, 14 townhouses and one apartment site [80 units], subject of approvals.

Community groups have celebrated the handover of land at Sandon Point to the public

About 3000sqm of land stretching north-east of Hill St will now be considered public open space after an agreement was signed between Wollongong City Council and developer Stockland.
