Beach frontage goes to council
Wollongong City Council has agreed to buy the final piece of beachfront land at Sandon Point, ensuring it remains a recreation space.
Council administrators agreed to purchase three lots from Stockland Development Pty Ltd.
Administrator Robert McGregor said the council would purchase the land at a "reduced price".
He said the heavily used northern cycleway would be saved thanks to the agree sale.
"It is important that (the) council moves ahead with this purchase of land in Sandon Point, to maintain public access to the beach and recreation areas into the future," he said.
After weighing up the cost to ratepayers and the added benefits of open space to the community, the council had to resolve not to purchase an area known as Hill Street Land on Sandon Point.
